If there is a long operation length, then a lot of cable is needed. It is expensive and it is necessary to check cable’s isolation all the time. Open conductor rail doesn’t need such maintenance routine. It is mostly used in the workshops for current supply of cranes, electric hoists, lifting crabs and other portable suppliers.

A conductor rail represents a set of profiles, assembled into a single system by special connectors. Usually conductor rails consist of three lines, for the three-pole supply of mechanisms. Connectors are designed as perforated angles. To increase conductivity a contact zone is lubricated with a special conducting paste. The whole system is mounted on the conductor support brackets. They represent a U‑shape with specially designed holes for the insulator fastening. By means of these insulators assembly of the conductor rails occurs. Therefore isolation between current-conducting elements and the framework of the workshop is achieved.

Conductor rail bracket might be attached to the I-beam, to the wall by anchor bolts, might be welded to the existing construction. To the I-beam conductor rails are mounted by two angles, that firmly clamp the conductor rail bracket to the surface of the profile.

If there is a long operational length, then thermal expander is used. It serves to compensate thermal expansions of conductor rails. It represents a plate with holes for fastening. One hole has an oval shape to provide displacements of the compensator. In that hole bolts are not tightened. After the assembly of trolleys, they are joined with a connecting strip.

For the current transfer trolley current collectors are used. They represent an assembly of U-shaped arcs. Thanks to the spring the current collector always has a contact with the trolley.
